Welcome!

The School of Education at Syracuse University is engaged in real world issues.  A great example of this is the Say Yes to Education initiative that has captivated the entire campus in work to transform urban education on a district-wide level and as a national model.

School of Education programs link to practice right from the outset.  Undergraduates find themselves in field placements and research opportunities in their very first year on campus.

Students and faculty are committed to reshaping the face of education and its diverse fields.  Syracuse was the first research institution in the nation to create a dual certification inclusive elementary education program.  Faculty secure research funds from NASA, the National Science Foundation, the Taishoff Foundation, the NLM Family Foundation, the Hussman Foundation, the Spencer Foundation, the U.S. Department of Education and many other funders.

At the School of Education, students learn with award winning faculty, including Kathy Hinchman, recent president of the Literacy Research Association, George Theoharis, winner of the American Education Research Association emerging scholar award in educational leadership, Dawn Johnson, winner of the American College Personnel Association emerging professional award, and Marcelle Haddix winner of the National council of Teachers of English Promising Researcher Award.  These are just four examples among a host of others.

We welcome students who want to make a difference in the world.

Sincerely,

Douglas Biklen, Dean
