Overview:
The Bachelor of Science in Education degree, with a major in Early Childhood, prepares students for Missouri Teacher Certification birth-3rd grade.

The College of Education is fully accredited by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the North Central Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges.

Academic Information

Admission Requirements:
All first-time college freshman appplying to the University of Missouri for enrollment in the College of Education must meet admissions standards for the University of Missouri (more stringent requirements subsequently may be required for admission to professional programs and advanced phases within the College of Education).
All students must apply to Phase II of the Teacher Development Program.

General Requirements for Admission to Phase II:
(Do Not Self-Advise! Review your requirements and plans to complete them with an Academic Advisor)
English 1000 with a "C-" or higher
College Algebra or equivalent with a "C-" or higher
Communications 1200 or equivalent with a "C-" or higher(or competency in oral proficiency as demonstrated by successfully passing the Principles of Public Speaking -- DSST exam)
Currently a College of Education Student
Demonstration of competence of Phase I learning markers as demonstrated by satisfactory completion of course; TDP 2000 and TDP 2040, grade of "C" (2.000) or higher in each course)
Minimum MU GPA and overall cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.750 or higher
Minimum passing score on each subtest of the CBASE of 235 or higher
Possession of characteristrics associated with effective performance in a professional role at the level and major selected
Satisfactory completion of additional courses that may be required for specific majors
Completion of online Application for Progression into Phase II and any required supplement materials

Additional Courses Required for Admission to Phase II by Program Area-Early Childhood Education:
HDFS 3420 or Psych 2410 or equivalent with a "C" (2.000) or higher
Music 1618 (or competency in music performance as demonstrated by passing the Music Skills exam)
Statistics 1200, or equivalent, with a "C-" or higher

Limited Enrollment:
Early Childhood Education experiences high demand and therefore has limited enrollment in Phase II. Meeting minimum College of Education requirements does not guarantee admission to Limited Enrollment Programs.

Individuals seeking transfer to the College of Education must meet the following conditions:
Individuals applying to transfer from another MU division must have the following MU and overall cumulative GPA in order to be admitted to the College of Education.
Freshman Classification (0-29 credit hours): 2.600 or higher
Sophomore Classification (30-59 credit hours): 2.700 or higher
Junior Classification/Senior Classification (60+ credit hours): 2.750 or higher

Minimum GPA for Admission: 2.75
