About the School
The University of Maryland School of Public Policy is one of the nation's leading graduate programs devoted to the study of public policy, management and international affairs. Neither a behemoth nor a niche program, we are a medium sized school with big ideas and small classes. We have become a major player in a short period of time, and we are still rapidly growing in size and influence.

Our inside-the-Capital Beltway location means we are a short Metro ride from Congress, federal agencies, international organizations, think tanks, and numerous non-governmental and non-profit organizations. This means our students have close access to a plethora of internship and career opportunities, the policy-making process, and national and international policy leaders.

We are the only policy school in the Washington area embedded in a major research university. So, our students benefit from classes and other interactions with top-ranked graduate programs in economics, government and politics, education, criminology, business, engineering and the environmental sciences.

We are also one of the few policy schools and the only school in the Washington area to combine both domestic and international policy study under one roof, allowing both faculty and students to study the full scope of issues that affect both realms.

Finally, our vigorous recruitment efforts, combined with some of the highest academic standards in the field, create a vibrant student body teeming with academically gifted and engaged students from across the nation and around the world. The University of Maryland's status of a model multi-racial university, with significant resources devoted to increasing the number of women and minorities in graduate education, enables the Maryland School of Public Policy to attract students whose backgrounds are as diverse as their areas of interest.
