The Master of Public Affairs in Nonprofit Management (MPA) degree is offered through the School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA). If you are working for a nonprofit agency or want to enter the field, this professional management degree program is intended for you. Become a social entrepreneur by studying the art and craft of developing, managing and distributing resources for the common good. At a time when the social and economic role of government is changing, this program prepares you to address new challenges and opportunities in philanthropy, voluntarism, civil society and civic investment.
Curriculum
The M.P.A. in Nonprofit Management program consists of 21 credit hours of core courses in public affairs and management, as well as 18 credit hours of concentration courses exploring various aspects of the nonprofit sector. An additional nine credit hours of electives or mid-career credits complete this 48-hour program of study. This degree is available on both the Bloomington and Indianapolis campuses of Indiana University.

Requirements for Admission
Requirements include a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, minimum 3.0 grade point average on a scale of 4, and a minimum 3.0 average in your major field. In addition, you should demonstrate an appropriate level of achievement on the Graduate Record Examination (or comparable proficiency test), and send three letters of recommendation to the M.P.A. Program Advisory Committee.
If you do not meet all of the requirements listed above, you may be admitted to the program on a provisional basis and will be reviewed after a fixed period of time to determine whether you may continue in the program.
Expected Costs
The tuition rate for the 2009-2010 academic year is $ 320.84 per credit hour for Indiana residents and $777.76 per credit hour for non residents. Rates are subject to change by the Indiana University Board of Trustees. In addition, there are some mandatory fees that are charged based on the number of credit hours you take each semester. Financial Aid
Some graduate assistantship positions are available. You must submit an assistantship application along with your completed M.P.A. application by March 1 for consideration.

Graduate Record Examination
Applicants should demonstrate an appropriate level of proficiency on the GRE. An official report of the results is required for admission. Computer-Based Testing Administration is conducted year-round by appointment through designated test centers. Information on the GRE is generally available at a local college or university, or by calling Educational Testing Service at (800) GRE-CALL.
