For second-year master's students at the University of Chicago

SSA will host the 2nd Annual Nonprofits and Social Innovation (NPSI) Workshop during the 2010–11 academic year for second-year master’s students at the University of Chicago. The purpose of the NPSI Workshop is to build leadership skills and core competencies necessary to be successful in today’s nonprofit sector. In particular, the NPSI Workshop will focus on what makes for an effective, innovative, and entrepreneurial nonprofit organization.

The NPSI Workshop seeks to provide networking opportunities for graduate students as they enter the job market and seek careers within or related to the nonprofit sector. Additionally, workshop participants will be expected to engage in discussion with students of different backgrounds and graduate training.

Sessions will focus on a range of topics:

Social entrepreneurship
Knowledge transfer
Recruiting, retaining, and managing people
Branding in the nonprofit world
Finding new methods and responding to changing need
Fundraising, budgeting, and revenue diversification
Assets, resources, and tools used by those engaging in social ventures
Through these topic areas, the NPSI Workshop will help develop students’ managerial, organizational, and leadership skills. Additionally, students will be exposed to various for-profit principles that are relevant in today’s nonprofit sector.

Each session will be facilitated by experts with experience in the nonprofit and social impact sectors.  The current schedule for the 2010-2011 NPSI Workshop is as follows:
