斯蒂文斯理工学院在微生物、纳米电子技术、无线通信、环境科学以及工程、材料科学和工程、技术治理等领域的教学科研都处于领先地位。尤其是电信管理专业在美国名列前茅。史蒂文斯工程专业本科毕业生深造获得博士学位的比例仅低于麻省理工和加州理工,名列全美第三,是一所具有雄厚的教学和科研实力的理工学院。
2010年斯蒂文斯理工学院在华盛顿特区的罗纳德·里根大厦开放了新的校区以提供技术管理和系统工程等方面的教育。学院当前着力于商业与技术的结合以使学生不仅获得创造的技能,并且获得领导和管理项目的能力。

斯蒂文斯理工学院被公认最好的学科是工程学、理学和技术管理。
不过史蒂文斯理工学院的学生则是认为电机及机械工程 是顶尖的,史蒂文斯理工学院全校将近有70%的学生 是攻读工程科系,11%攻读计算器及计算机科学,10%攻读自然科学。院设有“合作课程”,即校企合作教学,学生要花五年才能毕业,在五年期间,学生有机会到IBM以及General Foods等企业实习三至五个学期不等。学校下设有四大学院:人文学院、工程与科学学院、系统与企业学院、技术管理学院。
专业优势:电子工程/通信工程专业(全美排名第73位)、土木工程专业(全美排名第74位)、机械工程专业(全美排名第82位)等。
学院建有众多优秀的研究中心,其中最著名的为三个国家优秀研究中心:The Center for Secure & Resilient (CSR) Maritime Commerce;Engineering Research Center (SERC);The Atlantic Center for the Innovative Design & Control of Small Ships (ACCESS),上一年度获得价值2900万美圆的资助研究机会。
