加拿大上大学的各类英文考试分析——MELAB

加拿大读大学和研究生可以参加以下考试

我在Calgary考了一场MELAB. 对MELAB有了直接的认识,并且放弃了推荐同学考MELAB上大学的想法.
下面简述原因: MELAB 包括听,说,读,写4个Section. 除了说与考官直接对话15分钟, 并且没有像
雅思那样有规则, 纯粹就是胡侃, 提前背点儿自己熟悉的话题, 诱导考官, 容易得分.
其他3个Section就像笔考Toefl,  真的有些简单, 除了Reading Section 中的词汇部分.
关键在于各学校的分数线, 我没有查过其他学校, 只对Alberta境内的学校熟悉.
University of Calgary    85分
University of Alberta (Edmonton) 90分
现在来分析可能性:
作文满分是97, 依次 93,87,83,77,73,67,63,57,53 3教授评分后之和除以3. 想上U of A
      意味着, 要评分第二档 93分才行.
听力共50道,每道2分确实有些简单, 象古代笔考Toefl, 还有单句听力题. 不过大家可以
      试试95年8月前的Toefl听力, 看是否可以50个只错5个以内.
阅读实际上应该叫"语文",象 GRE的 verbal, 有语法填空, 完型填空,词汇,及4篇短阅读
      共100道,每题1分. 只说词汇题, 共30个, 我的感觉比张红岩词汇还要难. 下面我
      从<<A Student's Guide to the MELAB>>中第64-66页的词汇题中抽出30个, 包括题干
      及选项中的单词, 看看你能对几个. 另外, 你不可能其他部分一个不错吧, 所以阅读
      想上90分, 一般人不太容易.

看起来有点悲观, 其实不是, 如果你曾复习过GRE, GMAT,  词汇量够的话, 根本不在话下.
但为了躲避iBT,想不背单词,投机取巧, 过MELAB没可能. 但如果只上一个排名15以外的
大学,去查查分数线, 说不定MELAB是个很好的选择.
下个月在 Lethbridge 定了CAEL考试, 到时候感觉一下.另外, CAEL 在2月1号前报名是110块,
之后就长成140块了.   www.cael.ca

Reading Section (95分)
1-30 语法    31-50 cloze    51-80 Vocabulary    81-100 Reading
记了3道语法(当时拿不准的, 其它简单)

      D. called as
(2) I would remind him _________ he does not like to be reminded.
      A. rather
      B. otherwise
      C. xxxxxx (忘了)
      D. only

4篇短阅读是:
   1. Rock shrimp &  Stone crab
   2. Intaglio  printing
   3. Butterfly的嗅觉与生存
   4. 中国的 biogas

Listening Section 和<<A Student's Guide to the MELAB>>有一点小区别
version H 没有 Emphasis Type,  就是象下面这道题:
   29. The speaker would continue .....
         a. not Dad.
         b. not for lunch.
         c. not beef.
当时有两道题, 走神儿, 彻底没听到. 看来要极度concentrate

作文 2道题中自选一道
第一道忘了
选的第二道  Children should be raised by both parents or by single parent(father or mother)?
                  Which one is better? Why?

口语可以提前1天考,也可以下午考, 我选的下午考. 省得跑2次.
