Round 2 / Off-Campus / Alumni (Published March 12th, 2009)

I met my interviewer at his office in NYC. He seemed very busy and told me from the outset that the interview would only last 35-40 minutes (which it did.) I was surprised that he did not ask me any behavioral questions like "tell me about a time...." He asked me to tell him 'my story' and said it should not necessarily be a walk-through of my resume. He wanted to get a picture of who I am, where I'm from and where I'm going. I think he was trying to get a sense of what made me unique. I must say that he was very good at using this format to probe my reasoning in former decision-making situations. He focused on "the why questions." By the end we had shifted into a discussion of my career goals - basically, "why an MBA?", "why now?" The last 10 minutes were for me to ask questions. I asked about the culture at the GSB and his impressions of the new curriculum. Overall, my impression was that he was humble, amazingly successful and inspirational. Definitely the most enjoyable interview I've had.
