This program concentrates on the science and technology of synthetic and natural materials characterized by carbon-bonded, long chain molecules of seemingly limitless architectural diversity, and their composites with inorganic materials. Polymer and nanocomposite processing by molecular-level assembly, self-assembly, and field-directed approaches are employed to create new materials displaying a wide range of structure and properties. Materials Science and Engineering principles are applied to the development of new products and therapies including photonic devices, battery electrolytes, organic LEDs, filtration membranes, highly recyclable plastics, resorbable implants, biosensors, and drug delivery devices.

Students should have completed a master degree for doctorate program admissions and bachelor degree for master program admissions. They must have scored the minimum requirement in either TOEFL or IELTS. The minimum requirement for Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a minimum score of 550 (paper-based test), 213 (computer-based test), or 80 (internet test), however some departments and programs require submission of a TOEFL score of 610 (paper-based test), 255 (computer-based test), or 103 (internet test) or higher. The minimum requirement for International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is minimum score of 7.0, however some departments and programs require submission of an IELTS score of 7.5. GRE or GMAT is required for some courses.
