课程名称:Ph.D in Philosophy

授予学位:博士学位(Doctoral)

授予机构:Purdue University

学院:College of Liberal Arts, Department of Philosophy

课程介绍:

This program comprises two stages. In the first stage, students fulfill requirements in four areas: (a) metaphysics and epistemology; (b) history of philosophy; (c) ethics and value theory; and (d) logic, language, and science. Students must also fulfill a language requirement, usually in Ancient Greek, French, German, or Latin. The second stage of the program normally begins in a student's third year; he or she will prepare and defend a dissertation prospectus before beginning work on the dissertation. Students generally are encouraged to complete their dissertation by the end of their fourth year at Purdue. Each student must demonstrate competence in the four traditional subdisciplines of philosophy: the history of philosophy, metaphysics and epistemology, value theory, and logic and methodology. However, within these major areas, options are provided to allow the student to give particular attention to those problems that are of special interest to him or her.
