The Graduate Certificate in Public Finance offers advanced study in a core of related graduate level courses in public finance drawn from the Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree program.  These courses are designed to enhance each student's ability to think critically about the social, economic and political contexts of public finance problems. Those completing the program will be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Public Finance, and completion will be recognized on the student's official university transcript.

Public finance who hold undergraduate degrees and who want to improve their skills and knowledge.
MPA students seeking to specialize in public finance.
Students in other graduate degree programs seeking advanced study in public finance.
What are the program requirements?
The certificate requires the completion of four graduate courses in public finance and their course prerequisites:

PAdm 765: Public Sector Economics (no prerequisite)
PAdm 865: State and Local Government Finance (prerequisite PAdm 765) **
PAdm 866: Public Financial Management (prerequisites; PAdm 765 and PAdm 865)
PAdm 867: State and Local Government Budgeting (prerequisite PAdm 765 and PAdm 865)
       **Public Administration 765--Public Sector Economics is a prerequisite for this course.

Program participants must earn a grade of "B" or better in all certificate courses.  No transfer credit will be accepted for the Graduate Certificate in Public Finance.  Certificate courses must be completed within a span of six years or less.  Classes normally take place after 5 p.m. on weekdays.

What must I do to be admitted to the Graduate Certificate in Public Finance Program?
Admission to the Graduate School is required.  Applicants must have a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited university and a grade point average of at least 2.75 in the last 60 credit hours of work, including post-bachelor's graduate work.  Applicants who are currently enrolled in a graduate degree program at Wichita State University and desire to complete the Graduate Certificate as part of their degree program should include the four required courses in their plan of study.

Applicants who speak English as a second language must have a score of 600 or more on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Second Language) and a score of 50 or more on the TSE (Test of Spoken English) or the SPEAK (Speaking Proficiency English Assessment Kit) test.
