An undergraduate degree in physics provides an excellent basis not only for graduate study in physics and related fields, but also for professional work in such fields as astrophysics, biophysics, engineering and applied physics, geophysics, management, law, or medicine. The undergraduate curriculum offers students the opportunity to acquire a deep conceptual understanding of fundamental physics. The core departmental requirements begin this process. The student then chooses one of two options to complete the degree. The focused option is designed for students who plan to pursue physics as a career. The flexible option is designed for those who are interested in other, perhaps nontraditional, career paths.

Students who are native English speakers are required to submit the SAT Reasoning Test with the writing component or the ACT with the writing test. In addition, they are required to submit two SAT Subject Tests: one in math (level 1 or 2), and one in science (physics, chemistry, or biology e/m). Students who are non native speakers of English must take TOEFL and two SAT Subject Tests, one in math (level 1 or 2) and one in science (physics, chemistry, or biology e/m). The minimum required TOEFL scores are 577 for paper based test (PBT), 233 for computer based test (CBT), and 90 for internet based test (iBT) although the recommended scores are 600+ for paper based test (PBT), 250+ for computer based test (CBT), and 100+ for internet based test (iBT).
