Dean's Message When prospective students first consider the University of San Diego School of Law, they often include on their lists our ideal Southern California climate and the beauty of our campus. I have always been struck by how one aspect of that beauty complements another particularly attractive quality of our law school—its intellectual activity.

USD is a member of the Order of the Coif, the most distinguished rank of American law schools. USD is also one of the most selective law schools in the country. The average LSAT score is in the 89th percentile. Read more about USD's latest admitted class statistics.

Students are supported by a nationally ranked law faculty, who were recently recognized in Brian Leiter’s ranking of Law Faculties Based on Scholarly Impact (2010) with special mention of several professors for having the highest area of impact in several key specialty areas such administrative, criminal and intellectual property law.

Our students have diverse career goals and the school's newly renovated Career Services office is committed to supporting each student's career objectives throughout their law school years. As a result, based on a survey of students from the graduating class of 2009, 94 percent of them were employed within nine months of graduation.

USD law school graduates go on to score higher than the state average as first-time takers of the California Bar Exam, one of the most difficult in the country, and are now part of an international network of distinguished alumni working in a number of industries. Notable graduates include White House Homeland Security Advisor Frances Fragos Townsend, '84; Qualcomm President Steve Altman, '86; and Boston Red Sox General Manager Theo Epstein, '00.

USD also hosts an array of events designed for not only students, but also for the continuous legal education of our alumni and the San Diego community. The line-up of stellar keynote speakers has included Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O'Connor, Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and John Paul Stevens. Other noteworthy speakers have included consumer activist and former presidential candidate Ralph Nader and former U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese.

I hope this information encourages you to learn more about what makes USD truly special. If you choose to come to USD, I look forward to welcoming you to our community.
