About KU Law
The University of Kansas School of Law is an excellent place to begin your legal career. The school’s primary mission is to prepare its students to be outstanding members of the legal profession, well educated in the law, with a commitment to professional achievement and public service. The faculty and administration of the law school are dedicated to helping students find their way in their newly chosen field. Since law classes were first taught in 1878, the law faculty has carried on the legacy of Dean James Woods Green – an overriding commitment to his students.

The school has a long and proud tradition of admitting and graduating students of color and women. I.F. Bradley received his law degree in 1887 – the first African-American KU law graduate. Ella Weiss Brown – the first woman to receive a KU law degree – followed suit in 1891.

The University of Kansas School of Law is located on KU’s main campus in Green Hall, a modern, five-story building with extensive clinical facilities, spacious classrooms, a formal commons, a student commons area, easily accessible faculty offices and a large law library. As the largest and oldest law library in Kansas, the Wheat Law Library plays an integral role at the law school. Its primary purpose is to serve the law school and university community in legal and interdisciplinary scholarly pursuits and provide attorneys, judges and the general public with access to legal information.
