Greetings!
I am delighted to assume leadership of the Lynch School of Education at a time when the school is so strong and vibrant! On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students, I welcome you to our community of scholar-practitioners.
There has never been a more exciting time to be at the Lynch School of Education. With the recent launch of the Lynch Leadership Academy, faculty research funded by grants from the National Science Foundation and the MacArthur foundation, and students studying and participating in practicum experiences across every corner of the globe, the Lynch School continues to move in new and innovative directions that will revolutionize theory and practice.
Every day members of the Lynch School community strive to address today’s great challenges in psychology and education and to create ground-breaking solutions that inform state and national policy while bettering the lives of students, parents, and families throughout the Commonwealth and beyond.
Students of education at the Lynch School benefit from our proximity to the city of Boston, a hub of education that offers schools ranging from institutions of higher education to suburban, urban, district, charter, Catholic, and private K-12 schools. Lynch School students are exposed to a wide range of educational opportunities and immerse themselves in a variety of academic experiences without traveling far from the Boston College campus. Our students are trained to keep social justice at the heart of their practice and learn to follow their natural inclination to answer curiosity.
Our research and community outreach affects families throughout the nation. Programs such as Reaching out About Depression (ROAD), College Bound, and the Urban Catholic Teachers Corps, to name a few, are connecting people with the resources they need to live healthy and satisfying lives.
Through rigorous courses, discussion in and out of the classroom, and participation in community outreach activities, Lynch School students seek to understand social problems such as poverty, violence, and social inequity and the role that cultural and social change plays in transforming social structures.
Our alumni are central to the work that we conduct not only by leading the way for future graduates, but by supporting current students through philanthropic giving, professional development opportunities, and personal mentoring that inspires the path that our students will take. When considering the Lynch School I encourage you to engage with our many illustrious graduates who demonstrate a commitment to social justice in their professional lives as teachers, counselors, psychologists, school and university administrators, and educational evaluators, policy makers, and researchers.
It is a complex time and the challenges we face are immense. If you strive to enhance the human condition, to expand the human imagination, and to make the world more just through a life of work in the field of education, applied psychology, or research, I invite you to join us.
