Building for the Future

On every level, our School of Education is building for the future. Not only are we planning new facilities, we are also launching new undergraduate and graduate programs, applying for new research grants, and creating new community partnerships.

Our vision is to be a center of excellence in the promotion and integration of educational, psychological, and physical well-being in multicultural communities. Accordingly, we have aligned our three departments ?Teaching and Learning (TAL), Educational and Psychological Studies(EPS), and Exercise and Sport Sciences (ESS) ?to help us move along the path toward that vision.

Our pursuit of excellence is already paying off. Our School is climbing swiftly in the national rankings. Academic Analytics has rated us #1 in curriculum and instruction, #3 in math education, and #4 in educational evaluation and research, based on faculty productivity. Our students are presenting their research work at national conferences and playing leading roles in academic organizations.

We also recognize that to bring a stronger sense of well-being to individuals and families, our School needs to become more deeply engaged with organizations that share our goals and values. Therefore, we are reaching beyond the classroom to support community initiatives that focus on prevention and wellness. For instance, consider the powerful impact that reducing the high school dropout rate would have on individual lives, our nation抯 workforce and economy, and our communities as a whole.

As advocates of evidence-based strategies for well-being, we are also sharing key research findings with local, state, and national decision-makers, including ways to monetize the financial returns from investing in prevention at an early age, rather than repairing the damage later in life.

As we continue the process of transforming our School, I would like to thank our Visiting Committee for their invaluable insights and guidance. We are fortunate, indeed, to have such a distinguished group of community leaders who share our passion for education and human development.

We also appreciate the continued support of our generous donors and our partners in the educational system and the South Florida community.

By working together, we are all building for the future.
