Welcome to Mizzou's College of Education
As our nation emerges from one of the worst recessions in its history, a great deal of national attention is focused on education in America. Strong schools are the foundation of any community and economy and the University of Missouri College of Education is playing a key role in educational innovations and improvements in Missouri and beyond.

Through the outstanding work of our faculty, staff, and students, the MU College of Education is working to improve the lives of people in the towns, cities, and countryside of Missouri and the far reaches of the nation and world.

We must continue our focus on expanding the cultural experiences of our students, faculty, and staff. To be most effective as a professional in today's global classroom and economy, we all must think beyond our own experiences. We should be open to new ways of teaching and learning. Consequently, we need to provide meaningful cultural experiences for our students that transform their ways of understanding the world and thinking creatively to solve problems and create innovations.

Economic and financial stability is important for education and, in turn, education systems play a critical role in economic development. We should continue to work together with federal, state, and local agencies and partner with the business community to ensure that our schools produce an educated workforce to compete in our global, knowledge-based economy.

Our College has much to be proud of: an outstanding faculty and staff whose work has led to a top 50 ranking by U.S. News and World Report, a 165% increase in funding to support discovery and outreach, and significant accomplishments of our alumni to name just a few. Yet there is much work that lies ahead.

I am honored to serve in the role of Dean at the College of Education at MU and return to the place that prepared me so well to make a difference in the world. It is a privilege to work with such a distinguished faculty and staff. I look forward to getting to know the College's students and alumni, and I invite you to share your ideas, interests and concerns with me by emailing coedean@missouri.edu. Indeed, we are A College on the Move!

Warm Regards,

Daniel L. Clay, PhD
Dean of Education & Joanne H. Hook Dean's Chair in Educational Renewal
