The master's degree program in public policy with a concentration in education policy is a two-year professional course of study leading to the master of public policy (M.P.P.) degree.

This multidisciplinary program provides you with a scholarly and applied understanding of the public policy process as it relates to education. The course work serves as preparation for career paths in policy analysis and public service leadership for governmental and/or private institutions. Additionally, the degree serves as an excellent foundation for individuals who intend to enter law school.

If you currently have strong dual interests in public policy and law, you could be a candidate for our newly created J.D./M.P.P. degree. Available through Vanderbilt Law School and Peabody College, the joint degree can be obtained in four years. Candidates for admission must apply and be accepted separately to each program.

During the M.P.P. program, you will focus on issues of policy through the use of analytical methods derived from multiple disciplines including: sociology, economics, and political science. In addition to core course work in theory, resource allocation and deployment, quantitative research, and others, electives are chosen from a wide array of options in either K-12 education policy or higher education policy. You will also complete a capstone experienceconsisting of a practicum that focuses on your area of interest. A major policy paper to be approved by your assigned faculty advisor completes the practicum.

The M.P.P. degree program in education policy builds on the strength of the undergraduate public policy specialization in the Department of Human and Organizational Development, as well as the strong public policy orientation of the faculty and courses within the department.
