EDSE 3204 - Designing Learning Environments and Lessons (3 credits)
EDSE 4501 - Adolescent Development and Learning Theory (3 credits)
EDSE 4100 - Teaching in a Diverse Society ( 3 credits)
SPED 3415 - Special Education in the Secondary School ( 3 credits)
At any time, you may take:
HLTH 3202 - Drug Education (2 credits)
EDUC 3412 - The Computer in Education (4 credits
Professional Day
Held on the second Friday of each semester
All Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary practicium Block I and Block II candidates are required to attend, unless the time conflicts with a non-education class
Professionalism and ethics are discussed
School placements are given
Contracts are signed
Liability insurance is purchased
Field Placement
All placements will be made locally, in northern Wisconsin, or on the Iron Range
School diversity will be considered
School practicums begin the third Friday of the semester
Cooperating teachers will evaluate each candidate
For Early Childhood and Elementary candidates, a UMD supervisor will visit each candidate at your school placement
Block II
Required Classes

EDUC 4381 - Teaching Indigenous Students (2 credits)
EDSE 3206 - Apprenticeship: Secondary School (2 credits)
EDSE 4214 - Teaching Reading in Content Areas (2 credits)
EDSE 4525 - Assessment for Secondary Education Majors (3 credits)
Special Methods Course:
Each content area has a special methods course requirement
Some majors may take this course in Block I; see your advisor to find out when the specific methods course is offered for your major
EDSE special methods courses are offered as follows: Teaching Mathematics, fall; Teaching Science, fall; Teaching Social Studies, fall and spring

Ready to Student Teach?
Applications
Obtain the Student Teaching Application by the first week of the semester prior to the semester that you plan to student teach.
The completed application is due the fourth Friday of the semester (at 4 p.m. in 150 EduE) for the following semester.
Grades, Petitions and Waivers
You must have completed all Block I and Block II classes, with no incompletes, and no grades lower than C-.
You must retake any course in your major in which you received a grade below a C-, and achieve at least a C- prior to student teaching.
A minimum of 2.5 grade point average (GPA) is required for student teaching. (Some majors may require a higher GPA).
In instances involving requirements (GPA, grades, required course waivers), you may petition the program for special consideration. The petition or waiver allows you to explain unusual circumstances that may exempt you from a requirement. These forms are available in the CEHSP Student Affairs office (113 Bohannon Hall).
 
Block III - Student Teaching

EDUC 4500 - Professional Issues and Ethics (1 credit)
EDSE 4600 - Student Teaching (12 credits)
Placements
Local Placements
Placements will be made locally, in northern Wisconsin, or on the Iron Range, within approximately 40 miles of Duluth
School diversity will be considered
Cooperating teachers evaluate each candidate
UMD supervisor will visit each candidate at his/her school placement
Twin Cities Placements
All placements will be made in schools with high cultural diversity
Cooperating teachers evaluate each candidate
UMD supervisor will visit each candidate six times at his/her school placement
Out of Area Placements
This excludes the Twin Cities
