Mission
The mission of the School of Communications and Theater is to provide leadership in advancing the role of communication in public life. This mission is pursued through the training of students for leadership careers in communications, media and theater, through advancing research and creative activity in these fields, and through serving the public need for free and open communication.

Profile
Temple’s School of Communications and Theater (SCT) ranks among the largest, most comprehensive schools of communications in the country, and is considered the Philadelphia region’s leading provider of media employees. The School now enrolls approximately 4,000 undergraduate and graduate students and employs 85 full-time faculty members.

Here at SCT, academic and artistic exchanges occur between and among a wide variety of disciplines. The School offers cross-disciplinary programs in advertising; broadcasting, telecommunications and mass media; communications; film and media arts; journalism; strategic communication; and theater. Students complete courses of study leading to the Doctor of Philosophy; Master of Fine Arts; Master of Arts; Master of Journalism; Master of Science; or Bachelor of Arts.

Our professors and students are a group of talented, motivated individuals who are exploring the role of communication in public life through creative performance, hard news reporting, and commercially-oriented media. The more than 18,000 alumni include writers at national newspapers such as The New York Times and the Washington Post, top executives at Warner Brothers, NBC News, and Universal Music Group, award-winning actors and designers, independent film makers of note and three Pulitzer Prize winners.

We welcome you to this dialogue, and we look forward to your contributions.
