Criminology, Law, and Society
Our combination of size, intellectual diversity, and strong specialty areas, plus the ambience of a university community, makes the University of Florida an ideal setting in which to pursue advanced training in criminology or law and society.

Criminology & Law at the University of Florida offers graduate study leading to an M.A. degree, a Ph.D. degree, and a Joint M.A./J.D. degree. Graduate education typically involves training in both crime and justice and law and society.

Undergraduate Program
A Bachelor’s degree in Criminology & Law provides an excellent liberal arts foundation for embarking upon a wide range of career paths including those in business and the human services. Criminology & Law is also an excellent major for students who wish to do graduate study in law, criminology, corrections, policing, private security, public adminstration, and business.

 

Graduate Program
Criminology & Law at the University of Florida offers graduate programs that lead to both the Master's and Ph.D. degrees. Students generally earn a Master's degree as part of the Ph.D. program. Our graduate students are eligible for a variety of graduate assistantships and fellowships.

 

Security Research Project
The Security Research Project endeavors to study various elements of workplace related crime and deviance with a special emphasis on the retail industry.
Our principal research activity is the National Retail Security Survey, a nationwide annual study now in its sixteenth year comprised of the most recent empirical data on retail loss prevention, asset protection, and security activities.

 

Institute for Crime, Justice, and Policy Research
The Institute serves as a mechanism for initiating, developing, and carrying out policy-relevant research on criminological and criminal justice topics. The Institute has close ties with other units around campus, including local, state, national, and federal agencies. In addition to its research mission, the Institute also engages in training and education functions such as providing graduate students with research opportunities and bringing speakers to the criminology center.
