The time limit for the MELAB composition is 30 minutes. You will be given two essay topics. You must write on only one of the two topics.

MELAB Listening Test

The Listening Test on the MELAB usually lasts 30 to 35 minutes.

The listening section of the MELAB test consists of 60 multiple choice questions which the student will hear only once. The following five types of questions have been used on the listening portion of past MELAB tests:

TYPE 1: For type 1 questions, the candidate chooses the most reasonable answer to the question given on the cassette.

TYPE 2: For type 2 questions, the candidate chooses the statement which has the same meaning as the speaker's statement.

TYPE 3: For type 3 questions, the candidate chooses the statement which best explains the two-line dialogue given on the cassette.

TYPE 4: For type 4 questions, the candidate must choose what the speaker means. In other words, type 4 questions on the MELAB listening test are the emphasis type of questions.

TYPE 5: For type 5 questions, the candidate answers questions on short

talks that are approximately three minutes long.
