这是一篇对中国申请人比较有难度的Essay。如果没有很好理解，可能不容易写好。其实，这不是一篇关于探讨理论和实践的文章，而实质上是一个讲述自己success类型素材的文章，可以是来自工作，学习，生活中的，重点还是在突出自己。要深刻理解这篇Essay并写好，需要注意以下几点：
要清楚所谓的theory和practical experience具体指的是什么。首先，在英文中，所谓的theory，和我们中文的“理论”一词并不是完全对应的，有以下几个方面。一方面，theory 指的是：a set of statements or principles devised to explain a group of facts or phenomena,especially one that has been repeatedly tested or is widely accepted and can be used to make predictions about natural phenomena.
这是我们常见的所谓理论，是用来解释现象，特别是自然想象的，经过验证，被广泛接受的，还可以用来做预测的东西。但是，另一方面，theory还指的是：a particular conception or view of something to be done or of the method of doing it; a system of rules or principles. Or an assumption based on limited information or knowledge; a conjecture.
这是大家不熟悉，但在英文中广泛应用的意思，因此theory还可以指的是，那些指导我们是做事情的方法，规则，甚至是假设。因此，不是只有写在书本上的才是theory，其他的，比如说，常规的做法，普遍的观点，由来已久的认识，甚至是误解等等，都是theory的范畴。
那么，我们再来看看什么是practical experience。在英文中，practical experience指的是active participation in events or activities, leading to the accumulation of knowledge or skill, concerned with the production or operation of something useful。就是通过积极参与活动和事情，积累的知识，技能，产生出一些有用的东西。简单的说，就是通过做事情，获得的有用的东西。
