In this program, no specific subjects of study are prescribed, except for the requirement of two subjects in the candidate's doctoral research area and two subjects outside the candidate's field of specialization (breadth requirement). Half of the breadth requirement may be satisfied through a departmentally approved industrial internship. The doctoral thesis must represent a substantial piece of original research, carried out under the supervision of a department faculty member.

Students should have completed a master degree for doctorate program admissions and bachelor degree for master program admissions. They must have scored the minimum requirement in either TOEFL or IELTS. The minimum requirement for Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a minimum score of 550 (paper-based test), 213 (computer-based test), or 80 (internet test), however some departments and programs require submission of a TOEFL score of 610 (paper-based test), 255 (computer-based test), or 103 (internet test) or higher. The minimum requirement for International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is minimum score of 7.0, however some departments and programs require submission of an IELTS score of 7.5. GRE or GMAT is required for some courses.
