The University of Southern California provides Trojan housing which consists of nearly 6,000 housing spaces in more than 40 residence halls and apartments are designed to provide easy access to campus resources and activities. A highlight of campus living are the five residential colleges, communities of students and faculty who share common interests and plan frequent group activities. Several residence halls have special interest floors (including business, cinema, music, and women in science and engineering). There are also floors dedicated to students especially interested in African American, Jewish, Latino or Muslim culture. Residence halls offer the traditional college housing experience, with double-occupancy rooms and community bathrooms, plus a required meal plan. Apartments - units with one or two double-occupancy bedrooms and a full kitchen, enables students to lead a more independent lifestyle, with more space and privacy. At the University, even the most tradition-steeped residence halls boast modern conveniences, including a customer service center, a computerized entry monitoring system and a smartcard-operated on-site laundry facility. The newest housing facility on campus is the four-story International Residential College at Parkside, which houses 400 students, features international cuisine in the dining hall and offers numerous cross-cultural programs. The halls provide free high-speed ethernet computer connections to campus networks and the Web. Each student has an ethernet jack and an individual telephone line. Resident technology assistants help everyone stay connected and student housing also includes free local telephone service and basic cable TV connections.
